This year’s University Freshman Convocation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. on the USC Upstate Quadrangle. The keynote speaker for this year’s convocation will be nationally known speaker Dr. Adolf Brown. This will be the seconf freshman convocation Dr. Brown has participated in here at the University of South Carolina Upstate.

Dr. Adolf Brown has degrees from the oldest college in the United States of America. The College of William and Mary afforded Dr. Adolf Brown, III, undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Anthropology. Dr. Brown has been involved in education since 1972 beginning with project Head Start, an early childhood education program for low-income children and families. His expertise began in classroom management and student motivation. Dr. Brown is a former tenured university professor and administrator where he produced the largest number of Psychology/Education graduates in the country. A gifted teacher, author, consultant, speaker and trainer, Dr. Brown has dedicated his life’s mission to helping others overcome the major stumbling blocks of life through self-motivation and self-improvement.

All faculty and staff are invited to participate in this year’s convocation. This is an important milestone for our newest students—marking the beginning of their college career. These freshmen will begin and complete their educational journey on the USC Upstate’s Quadrangle overlooking the beautiful Rose Terrace.

As we celebrate the introduction of a new class of students into our community of scholars, faculty should wear full academic regalia. The Administration Lobby will be open and available for faculty preparation. Faculty will assemble no later than 9:45 a.m. in the lobby area. We will process promptly at 10:00 a.m. and the program will conclude within 60 minutes.
