University Writing Center Announces Fall Workshops

Integrating Sources with APA Formatting
This workshop helps students develop their own styles and voices when writing research papers by offering practice in integrating reliable source material.  We discuss appropriate paraphrasing and quoting techniques and provide basic citation models as outlined by the American Psychological Association.  We contrast examples of good source integration with poor ones to illustrate cases of inadvertent plagiarism.

Generating Ideas and Drafting 
This workshop provides strategies to help students improve their writing fluency.  We will discuss the analysis of rhetorical situations, pre-writing techniques, outlining, journal-keeping and ways to approach writing based on students’ own learning styles.

This workshop provides student writers with self-assessment strategies as well as ways to seek assistance from other readers.  Various aspects of drafts are considered:  focus, support, organization, coherence and clarity and accurate documentation.

Putting the Pieces Together: Long Paper Assembly and Review 
Designed with Senior Seminar students in mind, this workshop provides strategies to assist writers in managing material from numerous sources, eliminating unrelated material, developing ideas, integrating material effectively and maintaining a personal voice.
