USC Upstate Seniors Present Art Exhibit: “Encouraging the Artist Within”
Spartanburg, S.C. — The 2011 graduating class of art education students at the University of South Carolina Upstate will hold an exhibition to showcase their work from the past four years from January 10 through February 18, 2011 in the Curtis R. Harley Art Gallery in the Humanities and Performing Arts Center. The opening will be held on January 18 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the gallery. The participating seniors are: Rachel Crow, Katie Hammett, Allyse Ingraham, Parker Mullinax, Maggie Poole, Connie Stuart, and Christopher Turner.
The mission of the exhibition is for the students to showcase their work as professional artists along with aspects from art education. The artwork was completed during their time at USC Upstate and will include paintings, prints, drawings, and more. The second part of the exhibition will showcase the work from art education classes, artists as teachers. This includes teaching philosophies and lessons with students in Upstate schools. The visitors will see how the exhibiting seniors have prepared for future teaching. The intended outcome is to showcase the students as professional artists and as art educators.
The event is free and open to the public. Local educators and administrators are encouraged to attend. For more information contact Mary Lou Hightower at (864) 503-5817 or email@example.com.
