Spartanburg, S.C. – Meredith Hoffman, 21, a University of South Carolina Upstate junior from Lexington, S.C. will represent South Carolina at the Miss Collegiate America National Pageant to be held in San Antonio, Texas January 6 – 8, 2011. Hoffman is an elementary education major with a minor in music. She enjoys playing the guitar and especially loves singing show tunes from her favorite musical, “Wicked.”

Hoffman has been competing in pageants since her grandmother placed her in the Miss Peach Festival Pageant when she was five years old. She won, and that, she says, “sparked the competitive streak.” In 2006, she placed in the top 10 in the Miss SC Teen USA pageant and was fourth runner up in the Miss SC Teen United States Pageant. In October 2010 she was appointed Miss SC Collegiate America.

At the national pageant, Hoffman will participate in an interview, evening gown and fashion runway competition. The winner will receive a $10,000 scholarship. Each contestant will also provide a basket with representative items from their state that will be auctioned. The proceeds will benefit Operation Smile, an organization providing reconstructive surgery for children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate. Hoffman, whose mother and sister will accompany her to Texas, will also enjoy pageant-led tours of San Antonio in the days leading up to the competition.
