Spartanburg, S.C. — The American Society for Industrial Security International (ASIS) – Chapter 97 presented a $500 scholarship to University of South Carolina Upstate criminal justice major, Renee Peltoniemi, on February 14, 2011.
Peltoniemi, from Taylors, S.C., will graduate in May 2011. She has maintained a 3.56 GPA while at USC Upstate, and twice has been named to the Dean’s List. The scholarship – awarded to a criminal justice major selected by the faculty for outstanding academic performance – was presented by Dan Collins, a 2003 USC Upstate graduate who is the director of corporate security for Fluor Corporation in Greenville and a member of ASIS.
ASIS International is the preeminent organization for security professionals. Founded in 1955, ASIS is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness and productivity of security professionals by developing educational programs and materials that address broad security interests, such as the ASIS Annual Seminar and Exhibits, as well as specific security topics. Over the last three years, Chapter 97 of ASIS International has provided six USC Upstate criminal justice students with a total of $3,000 in scholarships.
