Spartanburg Writing Project presents
The Upstate Young Writers’ Network
So You Think You Can Write
Saturday, April 30
8:30 am – 2 pm
USC Upstate

The Spartanburg Writing Project is proud and excited to be hosting our first ever Upstate Young Writer’s Network: “So You Think You Can Write?”! This all-day writing marathon will be held Saturday, April 30, 2011 from 8:30am until 2:00 pm at USC Upstate and will feature local and nationally known writers and performers, including Newberry Award winner, Deborah Wiles.

Open to teachers and students in grades kindergarten through college, this event promises to become a yearly tradition for aspiring writers all over our area. Participants at the conferences will attend three special workshops designed to inspire writing.  Students will be grouped according to age levels and will attend workshops specifically designed to fit their grade.  Teachers will earn recertification credits, gain great ideas for use in the classroom from published authors, and have the opportunity to write and learn right alongside their students.

The cost of this event is $30 per student and $40 per teacher. This includes three writing workshop sessions, a t-shirt, and a boxed lunch. Special rates are available for groups: groups of 10 or more who register at the same time get a reduced rate of $20 per student and $30 per teacher. In addition, please note that with every 20 student registrations, you can earn one free teacher registration.  It would be great if the school could help students attend this event by covering all or part of the registration costs.

Parents, students and teachers can visit http://www.uscupstate.edu/swp/default.aspx?id=13582 to register for the conference, or they can simply email me at tthomas@uscupstate.edu.  You can also download the SWP Upstate Young Writers Network Registration Form, along with the Spartanburg Writing Project Flyer.

Thank you so much for your willingness to promote and support this exciting event. We hope to have a large turnout and make this an annual festival!
