USC Upstate Holds Induction Ceremony of Alpha Mu Gamma National Collegiate Foreign Language Honor Society

Spartanburg, S.C. — The Nu Iota Chapter of Alpha Mu Gamma National Collegiate Foreign Language Honor Society held its induction ceremony on Thursday, April 14, from 6:00-7:00 pm in CLC 319.  Twelve students were inducted and one faculty member was awarded honorary membership.  The student inductees were:   Laura Andrews, Stephane Blanchard, Matthew Guempel,  Jimmy Interiano, Hakeem King, Jocelyn Kuh, Rachel Lovelace, Ashlyn McGinnis, Rachel Ralph, Kareem Richardson, Kristine Shugars, and Marielis Trujillo.   Dr. Warren Carson was inducted as an honorary member. 

Alpha Mu Gamma, the first and largest national collegiate foregin language honor society, was established on April 29, 1931 at the Los Angeles City College. It has as its primary purpose the honoring of students for outstanding achievement in foreign language study in college. Dr. Dirk Schlingmann, dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, was the guest speaker at the ceremony.
