Shoestring Players Offers Bittersweet Comedy With Production Of “Vanities"

Spartanburg, S.C. – The Shoestring Players at the University of South Carolina Upstate will offer a bittersweet comedy with its Studio Theatre Production of Vanities. Performances will be held on August 24-27 at 8:00 p.m. and on August 28 at 3:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.

Vanities is an astute, snapshot sharp chronicle of the lives of Joanne, Kathy and Mary. In 1963, they are aggressively vivacious cheerleaders living in Texas. Five years later in their college sorority house, they are confronting their futures with nervous jauntiness. In 1974, they reunite briefly in New York. Where their friendship was once as well-coordinated as their sweater sets, it is now strained and ambiguous. Their old time banter rings false and attempts at honest conversation only show they no longer have very much in common.

To purchase tickets, call the Performing Arts Center Box Office at USC Upstate, Monday-Friday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at (864) 503-5695. Ticket prices are $2. The Box Office opens on August 18.
