Upstate Freethinkers Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity

On November 19, the Upstate Freethinkers volunteered with the Spartanburg Habitat for Humanity.  Working on a build sponsored by Denny’s, ten members of the club spent their Saturday putting up the framework for a house that will eventually house a deserving family.

Through volunteer labor and donations from local businesses and charitable organizations, Habitat for Humanity provides affordable housing for those in need.  The organization has built thousands of homes worldwide and dozens right here in Spartanburg.

Upstate Freethinkers is a student organization that is dedicated to providing atheists, agnostics, skeptics, and anyone who questions organized religion an outlet to discuss taboo beliefs in a judgment-free environment.  By volunteering with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the club hopes to show that generosity of spirit and empathy for one’s fellow man are virtues shared by all people, whether they are religious or not.
