On November 19, the Army National Guard (Sgt. Jason Blackwell) invited the Urban League to pilot its Speed Mentoring Project at the University Readiness Center. More than 30 area professionals were invited to host a table.  Shannon Polchow, assistant professor of Spanish, along with two Upstate students Jasmine Horton, education, and Ryon Smalls, history, came out and did a wonderful job highlighting the services that Upstate offers and the academic options available.  This event served as a platform to provide guidance to students who are undecided about their career path.  They were connected with professionals who could provide inspiration.

Polchow hosted a table and spoke to several young people about their career goals and the wonderful field of education.  She did an amazing job and provided a much needed service to these youth.  Smalls and Horton assisted with logistics from greeting guests, speaking with students, and leading an impromptu mini tour.  These guys really worked hard and presented the university in a positive light!

We had professionals representing the fields of banking, funeral services, nonprofit leadership, education, as well as and entrepreneurs.  This event was successful in part because of these three Upstate individuals.
