Student Affairs Accepting Nominations for Earl Gordon Medal Award

February 6, 2012 at 4:02 pm

The office of Student Affairs is seeking and accepting nominations from you for the annual student Earl Gordon Medal Award. This is a very prestigious award for students to have bestowed upon them.

If you are unfamiliar with this award, this brief paragraph highlights its history. The University of South Carolina Upstate began a tradition in 1981 with the presentation of the Earl Gordon Medal for university service. Mr. Gordon, who died in January that year, was the first dean of students at the university. The medals are presented each year to two members of the graduating class selected on the basis of service to the university and its students, involvement in campus activities, service to the community, and nobility of character – qualities that were reflected in the life of Mr. Gordon.

Applicants must have completed all of the requirements to graduate from Upstate in August 2011, December 2011 or May 2012 with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.

Other Considerations include:

  • Volunteer/Service/USC Upstate, Local , Regional, State or National
  • Leadership Service

Applications can be found either online or you may pick them up in the Campus Life Center, Room 303.

Nominations are being accepted through Friday, February 24, 2012. Please direct all questions to Karen Thomas at kthomas@uscupstate.edu or by calling 503-5107.
