Upstate Starts with “U”! Every Student…Every Day

As a USC Upstate student, you have visited the Bookstore to purchase textbooks or Spartan apparel, and you may be a resident of Magnolia House or Palmetto House. You probably have eaten lunch with friends in the dining hall in Campus Life Center or the food court in the Smith building, and may have been in attendance at any number of student events hosted on campus throughout the year, including the Stadium Party or performances by the Shoestring Players.

What you may not have known, however, is that a portion of every dollar you spend on campus is reinvested into the university community. When you purchase a ticket for a student event on campus, or buy a protein shake at Sandella’s Café after a workout at the Wellness Center, you are also helping to strengthen student programs, provide student scholarships and enhance the “U” experience at Upstate.

So are you wondering how, specifically, your funds have been reinvested to support the USC Upstate campus?

  • Special Events and Facilities Scheduling replaced carpet, lighting, and curtains in the Humanities and Performing Arts Center Theater with funding from events hosted on campus.
  • Dining Services donated complimentary meal plans and a total of 200 canned goods to the Spartan Nutritional Assistance Campaign for students in need, and regularly provides food and beverages for student events.
  • A portion of every purchase made at the Bookstore provides funding for student scholarships.
  • Housing and Residential Life reinvests the entirety of its funding into housing facilities, upkeep, and repairs, in order to offer an affordable, safe, and secure living environment for students with social activities and academic support services right at their doorstep.

There’s no better way to support the spirit of the “U” than to eat, live and be active on campus. By taking advantage of on-campus amenities such as dining, shopping, housing, and student events, you can enhance your connection with the university and your peers while continuing your personal development beyond the classroom and supporting the campus community.

Remember, Upstate Starts with “U”!
