CEO of Snyder’s-Lance, David Singer, to Speak at USC Upstate’s Wells Fargo Speaker Series

Lance Inc., a Charlotte, N.C.-based snack food distributor, had sales that drifted sideways for nearly a decade while profit margins declined by two thirds. Its stock price was sinking, hitting a two-decade low in April 2003. The company’s board of directors asked David V. Singer to take the chief executive officer position, and he skillfully pulled together a team that engineered a turnaround in the company’s fortunes. After the late 2010 merger with Snyder’s of Hanover, the company, now called Snyder’s-Lance, is on solid footing with growing sales, expanding profit margins and a return to shareholders that has significantly outpaced the market.

This transformation will be the focus of Singer’s presentation called “The Lance Story,” on Thursday, September 6, 2012 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the BMW Classroom at the George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics, located in downtown Spartanburg at 160 East St. John Street.

Singer is the first guest of the 2012-2013 academic year to present as part of the Wells Fargo Speaker Series. The event is open to the public, but reservations are required for the event as seating is limited. A reception will follow immediately after the presentation.

Singer’s business expertise also includes management positions with Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated, and Flowers Foods. Singer earned his undergraduate degree and MBA from Penn State University and he serves on the Advisory Board of McColl School of Business at Queen’s College in Charlotte, N.C.

Snyder’s-Lance manufactures and markets snack foods throughout the United States and internationally. The company’s products include pretzels, sandwich crackers, potato chips, cookies, tortilla chips, restaurant style crackers, nuts and other snacks under the brand names of Snyder’s of Hanover, Lance, Krunchers!, Cape Cod, Jays, Grande, Tom’s, EatSmart Naturals, Archway, O-Ke-Doke, Padrinos, and Stella D’oro. Products are distributed widely through grocery and mass merchandisers, convenience stores, club stores, food service outlets and other channels.
