Brian Fazzone, a biology major, together with Vincent Connors, professor of biology, presented a research poster in July 2012 entitled “Seatrout heart infection by Cardicola laruei: are small fish in more trouble?” at the 87th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Parasitologists in Richmond, Va.  This work, part of a collaborative project with researchers from the South Carolina Department of Resources and the College of Charleston, shows that smaller Seatrout, an important game fish in South Carolina estuaries, are heavily impacted by infection with a blood fluke that lays eggs in their hearts.
