Backpack Buddies Food Drive
As part of the SNAP Food Challenge, we are collecting food items for the Backpack Buddies program in Spartanburg School Districts 3, 6, & 7. We are collecting kid friendly foods that are easy to open and eat. Please see the Backpack Buddies list for all the types of items we are collecting.
Donations may be dropped off in the Office of Student Life located on the 2nd floor of the Campus Life Center between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday-Friday until Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013.
The Backpack Buddies program was started to ensure that elementary school children in Spartanburg County do not go hungry on the weekends and holiday breaks. There are hundreds of children in our county who may not have anything to eat from lunch on Fridays until breakfast on Mondays.
Backpack Buddies collects food that are then packed into gallon-sized storage bags and distributed to the participating schools in our county. On Fridays, the children, selected by each school’s administration, are then anonymously and confidentially given the bags to place into their backpacks. Each bag contains two breakfast items, two main meal items, two beverages, two fruit items, two snacks, and an edible treat.
