Spartanburg County is holding a Hazardous Waste Disposal Event on Saturday March 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the County Administration Building, 322 N. Church Street across from Memorial Auditorium (please enter from Magnolia St.) Only Spartanburg County residents can participate. Proof of residency, such as a driver’s license, will be required. Also at this event, you can dispose of your old gasoline lawn mower and purchase new electric lawn and garden equipment at a reduced price. Rain barrels made from recycled food-grade barrels will also be available for purchase ($95).  More details are on this Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day flyer.

Acceptable Items include:

-Aerosols
-Brake fluid
-Corrosives (acid & base) liquids and solids
-Fire extinguisher (med. or small)
-Flammable liquids or solids
-Fluorescent ballasts/bulbs
-Furniture polishes, waxes, etc.
-Alkaline batteries
-NiCd batteries
-Lithium batteries
-Mercury/silver batteries
-Reactive material
-High BTU bulk liquids/solids
-Oxidizers (liquid or solid)
-Mercury debris
-Paint & paint thinner
-Fertilizers
-Gas cylinders
-Solvents/degreasers
-Swimming pool chemicals
-Pesticides/poisons (liquid/solid)
-Cleaners: All Types
-Propane/other gas cylinders

Unacceptable items include:

-Medical waste
-Ammunition
-Explosives
-Radioactive materials
-E-Waste (anything with a plug)
-Asbestos
-Business/Commercial/Agra-business waste
-Contractors/construction material
