The University of South Carolina Upstate’s Shoestring Players are pleased to bring Shakespeare’s immortal classic, A Midsummer Night’s Dream to the Spartanburg community. Performances will be held October 3-5 at 8 p.m. and October 6 at 3 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center Theatre.
This delightful comedy playfully brings two worlds together as the strictly governed mortals of Athens find themselves in the lawless woods where immortal spirits intervene and magically mix everything up in a way only capable in our dreams. In this production, Theseus (The Duke of Athens) resembles an urban crime boss intending to celebrate his nuptials in a 1930’s era American metropolis, which is adjacent to a grand forest where immortal spirits roam, drawing power from nature and “borrowing” what they will from their mortal neighbors.
The cast of 28, made up of USC Upstate theatre majors and several members of the Spartanburg community, promises to delight as they mesmerize the audience and take them on a magical, whimsical, and hilarious journey. With the talent filled company that has been assembled for this play A Midsummer Night’s Dream is an experience you will not want to miss!
