Spartanburg Community Plans 16th Annual Silent Witness Vigil
The 16th Annual Silent Witness Vigil will be held from 5 – 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 at Daniel Morgan Square on Main Street in Spartanburg.
Each year, SAFE Homes-Rape Crisis Coalition along with the Seventh Circuit Solicitor’s Office, Spartanburg County Domestic Violence Coordinating Council, Spartanburg County Department of Social Services, Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office and Spartanburg Public Safety honor past and present victims/survivors of domestic violence.
In the United States, millions of people, most often women and children, are affected by domestic violence each year. Newly released Violence Policy Center statistics state that per capita, South Carolina ranks first in number of homicides committed by an intimate and has some of the highest rates of violent crime in the United States. Statewide, the upstate finds itself with high rankings as well.
SAFE Homes-Rape Crisis Coalition is a private, non-profit organization that provides services to victims of domestic violence in Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union Counties and assists victims of sexual assault in Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties.
