The University of South Carolina Upstate Shoestring Players will perform “Six Degrees of Separation” by John Guare in the Humanities and Performing Arts Center. Performances will be held at 8 p.m. Nov. 14-16 and at 3 p.m. Nov. 17 .
Inspired by a true story, “Six Degrees of Separation” follows the trail of a young black con man, Paul, who insinuates himself into the lives of a wealthy New York couple, Ouisa and Flan Kittredge, claiming he knows their son at college.
Paul tells them he is the son of actor Sidney Poitier, and that he has just been mugged and all his money is gone. Captivated by Paul’s intelligence and his fascinating conversation, the Kittredges invite him to stay overnight. But in the morning they discover him in bed with a young male hustler from the streets, and the picture begins to change.
The cast includes: Hayden Bishop of Inman as Ouisa, Townsend Reynolds of Charleston as Flan, Ryan Barry of Spartanburg as Geoffrey, Chauncey Meeks-Owens of Spartanburg as Paul, Robert Wendover of Indian Land as Hustler, Stephanie Ibbotson of Greer as Kitty, Will Patterson of Greenville as Larkin, Lauren McGaha of Anderson as Detective, Candice Owens of Greer as Tess, Josh Wilson of Boiling Springs as Woody, Alastair Mann of Spartanburg as Ben, Chandler Crawford of Rock Hill as Dr. Fine, Joseph Butler of Landrum as Doug, Juan Williamson of Bogotá, Colombia as Policeman/Doorman, Garret Gibson of Inman as Trent, Chris Smith of Goose Creek as Rick, and Andrea Azumendi of Chihuahua, Mexico as Elizabeth.
