Spartan Men’s Tennis Defeat Gardner-Webb, 5-2

Boiling Springs, N.C. – The USC Upstate men’s tennis team secured its first win of the season when it defeated Gardner-Webb 5-2 Friday afternoon from the Webb Tennis Complex.

Upstate grabbed a 1-0 lead early on after taking the doubles point by winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Matthias Kidler and Ramon Simonetti bested Jonathan Walker and Brendan Dempsey 6-1 at No. 2, while Jamie Yates and Rajanvir Dharni turned in a 6-4 victory at No. 3 over Pepe Batalla and Ernest Alberch.

Upstate returns to the court Wednesday at 3 p.m. when the Spartans travel to Clinton, S.C., to battle Presbyterian.
