Apply Now to Join the Nu Iota Chapter of Alpha Mu Gamma

Nu Iota, the USC Upstate chapter of Alpha Mu Gamma National Collegiate Foreign Language Honor Society, is now inviting students to submit applications for membership.  Alpha Mu Gamma has as its primary purpose the honoring of students for outstanding achievement in foreign language study in college.  It is the first and largest national collegiate foreign language honor society of the U.S., established in 1931.

If you are interested in becoming a member, please contact Dr. June C. D. Carter (jcarter@uscupstate.edu) for an application.   All candidates for membership must apply by Friday, March 21, 5:00 PM, Media 248B.  The 2014 Induction Ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 17, 6:30 PM.    Requirements for membership are:

  • Two final course grades of “A” in two college level courses (each at least 3 semester units) of the same foreign language or American sign language (ASL)  OR
  • Two final course grades of “A” in college level English or English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)  for a student who is a native of a non-English speaking country   AND
  • A candidate should have a Grade Point Average of “B” (3.0) or higher in all completed college level courses not including the two foreign language or American Sign Language courses, or English or English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses.
  • Completion of one full college academic year or completion of one full college academic year by the end of the current term.
  • Membership fee $35.00 (includes National and Chapter fees)
