Upstate International celebrates diversity during March.
A full month of public events are planned to transport people over oceans, borders and continents, without leaving the Upstate.
A full schedule of events may be found at www.upstateinternational.org.
Here are a few things happening at USC Upstate:
FRIDAY, MARCH 21 — INTERNATIONAL STUDENT MIXER
The International Student Mixer is a casual get-together for the students of some of the local universities.
During these informal meetings, students can share each other’s company as they discuss different cultures and
experiences, and thrive in the similarities of what they go through everyday despite of their different origins.
Refreshments will be served.

SATURDAY, MARCH 29 — SPARTANBURG SOARING! INTERNATIONAL PARADE AND KITE FESTIVAL
Spartanburg’s first International Kite Festival on March 29, 2014 at Barnet Park will be a celebration to promote playfulness across generations and highlight the broad international community represented in the Upstate region. As a metaphor for how Spartanburg is soaring, an array of kites symbolizing different countries will take to the sky to represent not only the brilliant diversity of our city but the sky-high sense of civic pride that fuels our community vibrancy. On the prior two Saturdays, thanks to Partners for Active Living, the City of
Spartanburg, and the YMCA, several smaller parks in the area will be open as community kite flying fields with competitions and kite-related activities. Winners will advance to the International Kite Festival, located in open areas around Chapman Cultural Center. The day will be filled with fun activities that engage cultural curiosity, promote active play, and remind the public that Spartanburg is soaring.
