During Spring Commencement, graduates from the University of South Carolina Upstate reflected on the things they will miss most about the Upstate community and what the future holds for them.USC Upstate awarded degrees to 877 students at its May Commencement on Tuesday, May 6 on the Quad behind the John C. Stockwell Administration Building. The University also recognized three local citizens — Dolores F. “Dodie” Anderson ’81, Vollie C. “Vic” Bailey, Jr., and Dr. Julian C. Josey, Jr. — with honorary degrees for their contributions as community leaders in Spartanburg.
“Commencement is always a time for celebration as we recognize those who have completed their experiences here and leave us to use capacities they have developed here for further study, productive work, and meaningful living,” said Dr. Tom Moore, chancellor of USC Upstate. “The graduates we recognize this year will further the impact of USC Upstate on Upstate South Carolina and the world. This will be a particularly joyful commencement since we will recognize three members of the Spartanburg community with honorary degrees for their contributions here, across our state, and well beyond.”
