Did You Know “8” Is the New “9”?
Dial “8” instead of “9” for an outside line!
USC Upstate ITS is working to change the number used to dial an outside line from campus phones to 8.
A transition period begins today, April 21, 2014, before “9” is officially phased out on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014.
Why is this change being made? ITS is looking to reduce the number of accidental calls to the police by using the “9” prefix exclusively for emergency calls
Who will this affect? All faculty, staff and students who use campus telephones and fax machines.
What should I do? Begin dialing “8” for outside lines immediately. If you have any numbers set up on speed dial, you will need to change these, as well.
