Nelson, a graduate of Wofford College, has been in the food business for more than 30 years, having owned As You Like It in Spartanburg and teaching “bring your own groceries” cooking classes called Cooking Up A Storm.
Nelson opened Daisy Cakes in June 2009. She learned to cook at an early age, taught by both her grandmothers and her great aunt “Daisy,” for whom her company is named. She and her mother, Geraldine Adams, hand-sift and frost every four-layer cake.
After an appearance on “Shark Tank,” in April 2011, her business skyrocketed. With the help of business partner, Barbara Corcoran, Nelson hopes to make Daisy Cakes a household name.
The company has been featured on “The Nate Berkus Show,” Anderson Cooper, ABC World News, the Today Show, The Taste and QVC. The cakes also have been featured as a prize on “The Price Is Right” and “Wheel of Fortune.”
Her first cookbook, “Daisy Cakes, Share a Slice of Love,” was published during the summer.
