The USC Upstate women’s tennis team will send three members of its roster across town to Wofford to compete this weekend in the Terrier Intercollegiate from the Reeves Tennis Center in the final tournament of the fall season.
Spartan freshmen Sharlee Deshmukh, Nina Roell and Nona Ruppert will take part in the tournament that features Arkansas State, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, Lenoir Rhyne, Norfolk State, Presbyterian, UNC Asheville, USC Upstate, Virginia Tech, Western Carolina and Wofford.
Ruppert and Roell open play for Upstate Friday at 1 p.m. when the duo takes on Shannon Bettiol and Elizabeth Ansari of Western Carolina in the Black bracket. Deshmukh will pair up with Daria Iurchenko of Arkansas State and face Amalie Davidsen and Carolina Sherrer of UNC Asheville at 2 p.m. in the Gray bracket.
In singles action, Ruppert faces Sabina Jeresic of Arkansas State in the Wofford bracket Friday at 2 p.m. Roell follows at 3:30 p.m. in a matcup with Kalli Karas of Wofford in the SoCon bracket, while Deshmukh caps play at 4:45 p.m. against Daria Vasekina of Georgia Southern in the College bracket.
“This tournament will be an opportunity for these three players to finish out the season well before the winter break,” USC Upstate head coach Oliver Trittenwein said. “It is always great to play in the Terrier Intercollegiate because it almost serves as somewhat of a home event for our players, and there is always a good level of competition coming in to play from around the region.”
