The USC Upstate men’s tennis team closes out its 2014 fall schedule this weekend when the Spartans travel to Wilmington, N.C., to take part in the UNC Wilmington Team Invite from the UNCW Tennis Complex.
Competition for Upstate begins Friday at 10 a.m. when the Spartans and host UNC Wilmington meet for doubles play. Upstate concludes competition on day one at 2 p.m. with a singles matchup against Richmond.
The tournament continues with Upstate facing Liberty in doubles action Saturday at 10 a.m. before taking on UNC Wilmington at 11 a.m. in singles play.
Day three consists of a 9 a.m. pairing on Sunday between Upstate and Richmond in doubles play, and will conclude at 10 a.m. when the Spartans battle Liberty in singles action.
“We are fortunate to be able to take all eight guys to our final tournament of the fall,” USC Upstate head coach Oliver Trittenwein said. “I am looking at the tournament as a way to see which positions in both singles and doubles are best suited for our guys.
“At this time we have a pretty good idea of who will play where, but this tournament allows us to see where our strengths and weaknesses are at each position,” Trittenwein added. “It also allows the players to judge themselves and their games to figure out what needs to be tweaked before we begin spring competition.”
