USC Upstate head men’s golf coach Todd Lawton announces the signing of Easley’s Matt Carter to a national letter of intent during the early signing period. Carter will join the program for the 2015-16 season.

Carter is ranked No. 14 in the overall South Carolina Junior Golf Association rankings and No. 7 in the Class of 2015. He helped lead Easley to a second-place finish at the 2014 4A State Tournament, posting a 12th-place finish with a 228 total on a challenging Furman University course. He helped lead the green Wave to a third-place finish as a sophomore in 2013, placing 17th individually.

“Matt is a fantastic addition to our Upstate golf family,” said Lawton. “He will continue our tradition of having strong golfers from Easley in our program and I know that he can compete at the highest level. Overall, he is proficient in nearly every facet of the game and has proven he can manage the toughest course conditions and competition. He’s a complete recruit on and off the course and I am thrilled he chose Upstate.”
