Cairns, Queensland – Former USC Upstate standout Torrey Craig was named the National Basketball League Player of the Week Dec. 10 after claiming 40 percent of the fan vote en route to becoming the third Cairns Taipans player this season to secure the award.
Craig registered a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds in 25 minutes off the bench to lead the Taipans to an 85-80 victory over the Adelaide 36ers in Round 9. The Great Falls, S.C., native was also 7-for12 from the field for his best shooting performance since Round 1.
“I’m happy with how I played this weekend,” Craig said upon receiving the award. “I can’t say I’ve been happy with my performance this season because there are a lot of areas that I can improve on. Hopefully I can take this game and build from there.”
Craig is currently averaging 9.3 points and 5.6 rebounds in his first professional season, helping the Taipans into second place following a victory over the New Zealand Breakers Sunday afternoon.
Craig finished his career at Upstate ranked second all-time in points scored (2,128), first in rebounds (944), fifth in blocked shots (101), first in three-pointers made (297), third in free throws made (338), fourth in field goals made (747) and 11th in steals (138). He also ended his career ranked fourth all-time in the A-Sun in points scored and fifth in both rebounding and three-pointers made.
