Community Events Planned to Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The following events have been planned in the community to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

  • Community Forum: What would King Say?  — Thursday, January 15 — 7 p.m. — Spartanburg Community College, Downtown Campus

Discussion of current developments related to race relations/diversity, while considering how one of the greatest leaders of our time would respond. Representatives of the Faith Community, Education Field, Bar Association, Police and Sheriff’s Departments will participate in a panel discussion moderated by 107.3 JAMZ.

  • Walk As One and 5K Run — Saturday, January 17 — 9 a.m. — Chapman Cultural Center, 200 E. St. John St.
  • Day of Service — Monday, January 19 — 9 a.m. — Denny’s Tower — Downtown Spartanburg.  Register online at uwpiedmont.org/getconnected.
  • Unity Celebration — Monday, January 19 — 6:30 p.m. — Twichell Auditorium — Converse College Campus. Keynote speaker is Dr. James L. Moore, III. Music provided by Sounds of Diversity Choir and Orchestra.
