Ty Greene scored a career-high 29 points and Eddie Payne notched his 450th career victory as USC Upstate cruised to a 91-67 win over Stetson Saturday from the Hodge Center.
Greene finished 8-for-12 from the field, 6-for-7 from three-point range and 7-for-8 from the free throw line and became the first player in Upstate history to rank in the top 5 all-time in career points, three-pointers, free throws and steals. Greene has scored at least 20 points in three straight games and is second in the Atlantic Sun with nine 20-point games.
Michael Buchanan registered his third double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. ShunQuez Stephens had a career-high 15 points and Fred Milled added 11 points, four assists and three steals.
Josh Cuthbertson tallied five points, eight rebounds and six assists to help Upstate register 21 assists and a 38-26 edge in rebounding.
Divine Myles led Stetson with 19 points and six assists and Grant Lozoya finished with nine points and seven rebounds.
In a first half that featured six ties and nine lead changes, USC Upstate used an 8-0 run over the final 2:06 to build a 46-37 lead at halftime. The Spartans opened the second half with 12 consecutive points, including a stretch of seven straight from Greene, to go ahead 58-37 just under three minutes in.
Lozoya pulled Stetson within 13 on a layup late in the second half, but Upstate held the Hatters to just one field goal over the final 4:28 and went up by as many as 26 points before snapping a three-game losing streak.
Upstate returns to action Thursday at 7 p.m. when the Spartans face Jacksonville from Swisher Gymnasium.
