Jacksonville, Fla. – USC Upstate looks to become the first Atlantic Sun team to defeat North Florida when the two teams faceoff Saturday at 7 p.m. from UNF Arena.
Upstate improved to 15-7 and 3-3 in league play Thursday after a 78-65 win at Jacksonville. Senior Ty Greene scored a game-high 22 points for his fourth straight game with at least 20 points. Greene is seeking to become the first Spartan in the Division I era to have five straight 20-point games. The Knoxville, Tenn., native currently leads the A-Sun with 18.6 points per game.
Michael Buchanan added 14 points and seven rebounds off the bench and stands atop the conference with 2.3 offensive rebounds per game. Buchanan is also seventh overall in the league with 5.5 rebounds per game.
Fred Miller finished with 11 points, five rebounds and six assists as Upstate tallied 22 assists for its second straight game over 20. Miller is now second in the A-Sun with 4.1 assists per game and is averaging 5.2 per game during conference play.
North Florida moved to 6-0 in league play Thursday following its 86-67 victory over Kennesaw State. The Ospreys are now 14-9 overall and haven’t lost since Jan. 2 at Alabama.
Sophomore Dallas Moore leads North Florida and ranks second in the A-Sun in scoring with 16.3 points per game. Moore is also third in the league with 4.0 assists per game. Beau Beech adds 12.0 points per game and shoots 39.0 percent from three-point range.
Chris Davenport leads the conference in rebounding with 6.5 per game and scores in double figures with 11.5 points per game. Jalen Nesbitt is fourth on the team with 10.6 points per game.
USC Upstate and North Florida will be meeting on the hardwood for the 23rd time when the two schools tipoff Saturday. Upstate owns a 14-8 lead in the all-time series that dates back to the 1997-98 season. In addition, Upstate has won six of the last seven meetings and three in a row. Upstate is also 6-5 all-time at North Florida and has won two of the last three inside UNF Arena.
