Spartans Make Weekend Trip to UNC Wilmington, Coastal Carolina

The USC Upstate men’s tennis continues its six-match road trip Friday at 12:30 p.m. against UNC Wilmington and Saturday at 12 p.m. against Coastal Carolina.

The Spartans will be in search of their first win of the season after dropping matches against Gardner-Webb and Furman.

Freshman John Giakoumakis enters the weekend with a team-best 1-1 record in singles play along with a 1-1 mark in doubles action. Senior Viktor Selander is also 1-1 in doubles action after the duo turned in a victory at No. 2 against Gardner-Webb.

UNC Wilmington raises the curtain on its 2015 spring season Friday against the Spartans. The Seahawks are coming off a season in which they posted a 15-7 record and earned a berth in the NCAA Regionals after downing College of Charleston in the CAA finals.

Coastal Carolina began its season with a 7-0 loss at No. 38 Virginia Tech, but answered with wins over No. 73 East Carolina and The Citadel to improve to 2-1 entering the weekend. The Chanticleers went 13-10 overall in 2014 and 4-4 inside the Big South Conference en route to a berth in the tournament semifinals.
