Clemson, S.C. – The USC Upstate track and field team saw four athletes collect personal-best performances on Saturday as the Spartans finished competition at the Bob Pollock Classic inside the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.
The Upstate men led the way on Saturday with three personal-bests while the women tallied one. Along with the four personal-best marks, the Spartans compiled two finishes of 5th or better.
Griffin Eubanks turned in the top individual showing on both sides as the junior ran a personal-best time of 8:48.89 in the 3000-meter run to finish in 3rd place. Eubanks has now finished in the top-5 in all three events so far this season after placing 1st at the UNCG Six-Way Meet (3000-meter run) and 5th during the ETSU Track & Field Invitational (5000-meter run).
Calin Schumacher and Blake Hayes each registered a personal-best mark in their respective events. Schumacher ran a time in the 800-meter run seeded of 2:03.97 to finish 14th, while Hayes had a throw of 12.28-meters in the shot put to give him a 10th-place performance.
Alexis Jacobs led the Upstate women individually as the senior turned in a 4th-place finish in the shot put with her throw of 13.02-meters.
Essence Jackson competed in the 800-meter run seeded and walked away with an 8th-place finish after running a personal-best time of 2:22.51.
The Spartans head to Winston-Salem, N.C. next weekend (Jan. 30-31) for the Hilton Garden Invitational.
