Gillian Newberry, a retired University of South Carolina Upstate professor in botany, has produced a database of wild and native flora of the Carolinas.

Newberry has always taken excellent photographs and used them in her classes. Her interest in bio-geography, the study of why organisms live where they do, has always interested her.
