The USC Upstate men’s tennis team was defeated 7-0 by Lamar Sunday from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
Upstate turned in a victory in the first doubles match of the afternoon when freshmen Matt Bennion and Ignacio Garrido posted an 8-6 win over Trey Crysel and Steven McMullan from the No. 3 position. Lamar, however, answered by winning the next two matches to claim the point and build a 1-0 lead.
Jeandre Hoogenboezem put the Cardinals ahead 2-0 after claiming a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Felix Ewers at No. 4 singles. After Benny Schweizer won by forfeit at No. 3 following an injury to Jamie Yates, Michael Feucht clinched the match for Lamar when he defeated Viktor Selander 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2.
Upstate returns to action Thursday at 10 a.m. when the Spartans open A-Sun play against Stetson from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
