Nominations are now being accepted for 2014-2015 Multicultural Programs Awards. The completed nomination form and supporting documentation must be submitted to the Office of Student Life by 10 a.m. April 8, 2015. The nomination process is electronic, so all supporting documents should be sent to the Office of Student Life at stulife@uscupstate.edu.

Please consider submitting a nomination for one of the following awards:

The Empowerment Award

The Leon E. Wiles Humanitarian Award

The Tapestry Award

The Empowerment Award
This award is given to the student, faculty, or staff member who has displayed exemplary involvement, passion, inspiration, and dedication to the education and importance of diversity at USC Upstate and the Spartanburg community.

Requirements:
Please provide a statement outlining how the student leader, faculty, or staff member has demonstrated consistent commitment to diversity. Provide specific examples of how the student leader, faculty, or staff member has shown a persistent desire for inclusion and fostering diversity at USC Upstate and the Spartanburg community.

Supporting document:
One letter of support from a faculty, staff, or student. The letter should not exceed two pages (double-spaced), and should describe how the nominee meets or exceeds the above criteria and why he/she should be named the Empowerment Award recipient.

The Leon E. Wiles Humanitarian Award
Description: This award is awarded to the Upstate student who advocates for diversity through participation in campus activities or organizations, community groups, volunteer work, or other forms of involvement or action.

Requirements:
Please describe how the student leader has shown enthusiasm in advocating for diverse cultures at USC Upstate. Please give a detailed account of the student leader’s involvement in campus activities, community groups, volunteer work, or other events that promote diversity on campus.

Supporting documents:

-One letter of recommendation from an advisor, or University faculty/staff member. The letter should not exceed two pages (double-spaced), and should describe how the nominee meets or exceeds the above criteria and why he/she should be the Leon E. Wiles Humanitarian Award recipient.

-List of the nominee’s multicultural involvement on campus and in the community.

The Tapestry Award
Description: This award is presented to the Upstate office that engages its members and the campus community in educational activities that promote awareness, understanding, and the appreciation of diverse people, culture, and backgrounds.

Requirements:
Please provide a statement describing ways that the USC Upstate office has promoted inclusion and appreciation of campus diversity for the 2014-2015 academic year.
