The USC Upstate men’s tennis team wraps up a four-match road trip this week when the Spartans travel to Lipscomb Thursday at 10 a.m. and Northern Kentucky Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Upstate enters the week in fifth place in the Atlantis Sun Conference standings with a 1-2 record in league play.

Junior Ramon Simonetti stands first on the team with eight singles victories and is tied for the third-most wins of anyone in the A-Sun playing at the No. 1 position. Simonetti also has four doubles wins playing alongside fellow junior Jamie Yates.

Freshman Ignacio Garrido ranks second on the team with six singles wins and has won five in a row. Garrido is also 6-4 in doubles play with partner Matt Bennion.

“We are entering the final stretch of our conference schedule and we feel confident that we can do well,” USC Upstate head coach Oliver Trittenwein said. “Victories this week will give our team momentum as we finish the regular season April 11 against Kennesaw State on Senior Day.”

Lipscomb (9-10) lost its fourth straight match when it dropped a 5-2 decision Saturday at Stetson to drop to fifth place in the league standings. Northern Kentucky (5-8) has lost its last two matches and stands in seventh place in the conference.
