Upstate’s Winder Suits Up for Bahamas National Team in World Cup Qualifying

winder_14USC Upstate men’s soccer player Ian Winder is a member of the Bahamas National Team and is on the team currently playing qualifying matches for the 2018 World Cup.

Winder, who was a freshman on the 2014 Spartan soccer team, was called up to the Bahamas National Team on Jan. 27 and was named to the World Cup Qualifying team on March 25 prior to the first game of the Round 1 qualifying matches against Bermuda. He started the first match against Bermuda on March 25 and started in the second match against on March 29. Bermuda won the first game, 5-0, and the second, 3-0, to advance to the second round and take on Guatemala.

Winder played in six games for Upstate in 2014. He helped provide depth on the Spartan team that qualified for the A-Sun Tournament for the second time since moving to NCAA Division I and becoming eligible for the event in 2010.
