Nashville, Tenn. – The USC Upstate women’s tennis team was defeated 6-1 by Lipscomb Wednesday evening from Huston-Marsh Griffith Stadium.
Lipscomb built an early advantage when Deahna Welcher and Jenny Borck defeated Nina Roell and Nona Ruppert 8-4 from the No. 2 doubles position. The Lady Bisons captured the second doubles match following an 8-4 win by Melissa Kromer and Laura Kent over Isabel von Stryk and Anna Zoske at No. 1 to win the point.
Kromer put Lipscomb ahead 2-0 after she downed Roell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, and Kent extended the lead to 3-0 following a 6-2, 6-2 win over Zoske at No. 3.
Von Stryk claimed her 13th singles win of the year and registered a point for the Spartans in the process with a 6-4, 7-6 victory over Hannah Gamage at No. 1.
Borck thwarted the Upstate comeback bid with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Sharlee Deshmukh at No. 5 to seal the victory for Lipscomb.
Upstate returns to action Saturday at 10 a.m. when the Spartans travel to Highland Heights, Ky., to face Northern Kentucky.
