The USC Upstate men’s tennis team will celebrate Senior Day on the final day of the regular season Saturday at 10 a.m. when the Spartans host Kennesaw State from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
Upstate won its last two matches and currently sits tied for third place in the league standings and would earn the No. 3 seed in next week’s A-Sun Championships with a victory over Kennesaw State.
“Our team is looking to finish the season with a strong showing against Kennesaw State,” USC Upstate head coach Oliver Trittenwein said. “This match is very important because the outcome could determine whether or not we remain in third place or drop a spot or two.”
Junior Ramon Simonetti won both his matches last week and ranks first on the team with a 10-10 overall singles record. In addition, Simonetti is 4-1 in league matches playing primarily from the No. 1 position.
Freshman Ignacio Garrido has won seven consecutive singles matches and is a perfect 5-0 in conference play. Senior Viktor Selander ranks third on the team with seven wins and will be honored prior to the match.
“We are very proud of thankful for all that Viktor has done for our program during his time at Upstate,” Trittenwein said. “I know his teammates will want to honor all his hard work and persistence and rally around him on Saturday.”
Kennesaw State picked up wins in both of its matches last weekend to snap a five-match losing streak. The Owls own a 7-10 overall record and a 2-3 mark inside the league and currently sit in fifth place.
