Militia Day at Walnut Grove Plantation

June 8, 2015 at 12:38 pm

Calling all patriots!

Charles Moore’s 1767 farm was the site of a militia muster (gathering) before the Battle of Cowpens in January 1781. Relive that experience as South Carolina Independent Rangers re-create the muster for the second time this year at Walnut Grove Plantation on Saturday, June 13, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The Rangers will offer tales of soldiering life in the Carolina back country, firing demonstrations, and militia drills for kids. Admission is $3 for adults and $1.50 for kids ages 5-17; or $6 for adult and $3 for kids with a guided tour where you’ll hear about loyalist partisan William “Bloody Bill” Cunningham’s deadly 1781 raid on the manor house.

Tours are given on the hour with the first tour at 10 a.m. and the last tour at 4 p.m.  Walnut Grove Plantation is located at 1200 Otts Shoals Road in Roebuck.
