A new exhibit by USC Upstate’s Bridget Kirkland, “Whaddya Say Jim?” has opened at UPSTATE Gallery on Main.
An opening reception will be held from 5-8 p.m. on July 16.
Kirkland, an assistant professor of graphic design, started filming locations along Interstate 90, an area she had traveled as a child with her Grandpa Bob. As she collected her memories along the route, she began to collect new images and to connect the present with the past.
Along with the video portions, Kirkland has created 90 images of past and present. The wall installation, “It’s All Just Leg Medicine,” captures different facets of memory by incorporating variances in color, shading and lighting. Trinkets and maps that she collected along her journey replace some of the photos from her childhood.
The exhibit will run through August 29.
