USC Upstate head men’s soccer coach Greg Hooks has announced the schedule for the 2015 season, one that features 10 home games at County University Soccer Stadium.

Upstate will open the season with three exhibition games at home before opening the regular season at County University Soccer Stadium against UNC Asheville on Aug. 28. The game will end a stretch when the Spartans will play four games in 11 days with the inclusion of exhibition contests against Belmont Abbey on Aug. 17, Bob Jones on Aug. 20 and Bluefield on Aug. 25.

Including the season opener against UNC Asheville, Upstate will play four home games against non-conference opponents prior to starting the A-Sun portion of its schedule. The Spartans will welcome VMI to campus on Sept. 8, Wofford on Sept. 12 and Winthrop on Sept. 16. Upstate will hit the road in non-conference play at Presbyterian on Sept. 5, Gardner-Webb on Sept. 19, Davidson on Sept. 25 and Appalachian State on Oct. 16.

With Northern Kentucky leaving the A-Sun and NJIT finishing out its obligation to play in the Sun Belt in 2015 (men’s soccer only) before competing in the A-Sun in 2016, Upstate will play five conference opponents this season, three at home and two on the road. The Spartans will play host to Lipscomb on Sept. 30, Stetson on Oct. 21 and Florida Gulf Coast on Oct. 24. Upstate will hit the road to face Jacksonville on Oct. 3 and North Florida to close out the regular season on Oct. 31.

The first round of the A-Sun Tournament will be on Nov. 6 and will be played at campus sites the first two rounds. The championship game is being hosted by the highest remaining seed on Nov. 14.

“I look forward to the start of the season and what will be a challenging schedule in 2015,” said Hooks. “Our conference has quality teams from top to bottom and will be a battle once again. Our non-conference schedule features games against very tough teams from the Southeast and should give us a great opportunity to grow and develop our team as we prepare for the conference portion of our schedule.”
