USC Upstate men’s golf signee Matt Carter turned in a sixth place finish this past weekend at the 48th Annual Purple Power Greenville County Amateur Championship held at the Holly Tree Country Club in Greenville.
Carter compiled rounds of 72, 66 and 71 to finish with a 7-under score of 209 at the three-day event. He finished just six shots back of eventual champion Zack Siefert in the championship flight. Carter tied for the third-lowest round score of the tournament after carding a 66 on Saturday.
The Easley, S.C. native wrapped up his prep career at Easley High School by earning Class 4A All-State honors following a fifth place finish at the S.C. 4A State Championships in May. Carter also excelled on the junior golf circuit capturing two individual titles at the Morgan Lucas Team Championships and GSA Junior Open. Overall, he recorded four top-10 finishes including the two first place performances. Carter tallied a second place finish at the Orange Jacket Classic, was third at the Jimmy Creed and 10th at the S.C. Junior Amateur Championship.
