USC Upstate Announces Leadership Changes in Nursing, Education Programs

The University of South Carolina Upstate recently announced leadership changes in the Mary Black School of Nursing and the School of Education.

All changes were effective July 1, 2015.

Mary Black School of Nursing

  • Sonya Blevins was named the associate dean for the Greenville campus. She was previously an assistant professor. Blevins replaces Dr. Angie Davis, who is returning to her nine-month faculty position on the Spartanburg campus.
  • Deborah Charnley is assuming the role of associate dean for the Spartanburg campus. She was previously an assistant professor. Charnley replaces Dr. Kathy Fitzsimmons who is returning to her nine-month faculty position the Greenville campus.

School of Education

  • Marilyn Izzard will return to the Spartanburg campus as associate dean for the School of Education. Izzard previously served as the director of the USC Upstate Teacher Education Program at USC Sumter.
  • Jim Charles has been named as the director of the Teacher Education Program at the Greenville campus. Charles previously served as associate dean for the School of Education.
  • Nancy Gallenstein has been named as the director of the USC Upstate Teacher Education Program at USC Sumter. Gallenstein previously served as an associate professor of early childhood education.
  • Jakie Hodge has been named the coordinator of Field Experiences for the School of Education. Hodge previously served as an instructor of middle level/secondary education.
