Coming off a 2-0 victory over Belmont Abbey in its first exhibition game of the season, the USC Upstate men’s soccer team will be back in action Thursday night at 7 when it plays host to Bob Jones at County University Soccer Stadium. The game will be the second exhibition contest of the preseason for the Spartans.
Leon Schwarzer and Gordon Wild turned in standout offensive performances for Upstate in the exhibition opener Monday night against Belmont Abbey. Schwarzer scored both goals in the 2-0 win, netting a goal in each half. Wild assisted on both goals.
In addition to the offensive performance, the Spartan defense did its job to keep the Crusaders off of the scoreboard. Hassan Haddad went the distance in goal for the Spartans and came up with two diving saves and a couple more on hard shots from close range to record the shutout. The defensive unit, headed by Tucker Beerman, also pitched in to make the shutout a reality.
Upstate has never played Bob Jones in the history of the program. The Bruins enter their fourth year of competition after the school started its athletics program in 2012. The team went 5-13-0 last season following an 8-7-1 mark in 2013 and an 8-5-1 performance in 2012.
Admission to the exhibition game against Bob Jones and all home games throughout the season is free of charge.
