Upstate Men’s Soccer Opens Regular Season Friday Night at Home Against UNCA

After tallying a 2-0-1 record in three preseason matches, the USC Upstate men’s soccer team will open the regular season Friday night at 7 when the Spartans play host to UNC Asheville at County University Soccer Stadium.

Upstate and UNC Asheville have played eight times in the history of the series. The Spartans own a 6-1-1 lead in the all-time series. The teams battled to a 3-3 tie in double overtime in Asheville, N.C., in last year’s season opener. Upstate owns a 21-7 lead in scoring throughout the series.

Upstate played three exhibition games over the last two weeks and went undefeated with two wins and a tie. The Spartans started things off with a 2-0 victory over Belmont Abbey on Aug. 17 before claiming a 2-1 win over Bob Jones on Aug. 20. They closed out the preseason with a 1-1 tie of Bluefield on Aug. 25. It marked the second straight undefeated preseason for Upstate after going 3-0 in 2014.
