Bishop John Shelby Spong to Lecture at USC Upstate on Monday, September 21

Be part of an engaging conversation about Christianity’s past, present and future with a special presentation by Bishop John Shelby Spong on September 21, 2015 at the University of South Carolina Upstate.

Bishop Spong’s lecture “The Bible Did Not Drop from Heaven Fully Written,” will begin at 7 p.m. in the Olin Sansbury Campus Life Center Ballroom.

Throughout his career, Bishop Spong has engaged the public through his devout Christianity, examining important Christian issues such as evolution and the New Testament, as well as how to study and interpret the Bible in our modern world.

A native of North Carolina, Bishop Spong served as bishop of the Episcopal Dioceses of Newark, N.J., for 24 years. He has sold more than one million books and is the author of important studies such as “The Sins of Scripture: Exposing the Bible’s Texts of Hate to Discover the God of Love,” “Reclaiming the Bible for a Non-Religious World” and “Jesus for the Non-Religious.”

The presentation is free and open to the public.
