Jacksonville, Fla. – Allea Hawkins posted rounds of 74 and 75 to lead the USC Upstate women’s golf team on Monday during day one of the JU Classic from the Marsh Landing Country Club.
Upstate opened the tournament by shooting a 318 in the first round followed by a 316 in round two. The Spartans enter the final day of competition in 14th place with a two-round score of 634.
Hawkins is tied for 33rd place after turning in a first day score of 149 (+5) highlighted by an opening round 74 to lead Upstate individually. She followed with a 75 in the second round after finishing with three birdies over her final seven holes. The 74 carded in round one is a career-best for Hawkins after she recorded a 76 at last season’s Great Smokes Intercollegiate.
Payton Culler posted scores of 78 and 77 to finish the day with a 155 and stands tied for 59th place. She tallied four birdies on the day with three coming in the first round.
The Spartans also added scores from Allie Gennaula, Sidney Dermody and Malika Allie. Gennaula is tied for 70th with her score of 164 while Dermody is tied for 73rd place after tallying a 166. Allie is three spots behind Dermody in 76th position with a 36-hole score of 171.
Florida State currently leads the overall team standings after finishing the first two rounds with a score of 557. FSU’s Matilda Castren sits atop the leaderboard with a two-round score of 137 (-7).
The final round of the JU Classic will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
